Respected Patent Attorney Jerry Turner Sewell Joins Firm

The Firm is pleased to announce that Jerry Turner Sewell has joined Patterson Intellectual Property Law.  Mr. Sewell has more than thirty years of experience in intellectual property law.  His practice focuses on preparation and prosecution of patent applications, with a particular emphasis on electrical, electronic, software, internet, and data processing.  He was a partner for over 20 years at California-based Knobbe, Martens, Olson & Bear, one of America’s largest Intellectual Property firms. Prior to that, Mr. Sewell was with Deutsch, Kerrigan & Stiles in New Orleans, specializing in civil litigation. Since 2005, he has been in solo practice in Franklin, Tennessee and in Newport Beach, California.

Mr. Sewell earned his J.D. at the University of Minnesota and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1980.  He is a 1971 graduate of the University of Missouri, Rolla, with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.  He is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, State Bar of California, and Louisiana State Bar Association.  He is also registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Before his legal career, Mr. Sewell spent nine years as senior design engineer for Control Data Corporation in Bloomington, Minnesota, designing and testing processors, memories, peripheral devices and systems for such companies as Lockheed and General Dynamics.

A registered Professional Engineer in Minnesota and Louisiana, he is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the National Society of Professional Engineers, and the Louisiana Engineering Society.

Mr. Sewell is Past President of the Newport Beach/Irvine CA Rotary Club; current member of the Franklin Breakfast Rotary Club and a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church Nashville.
