Paul Ney named Chief Deputy Attorney General

Paul C. Ney, Jr. will join the Attorney General’s Office as Chief Deputy, announced Attorney General Herbert H. Slatery III. In this role, Ney will coordinate and supervise the substantive legal work of all five sections of the Attorney General’s Office. Ney has been a shareholder at Patterson Intellectual Property Law, P.C., in Nashville.

Ney is a Registered Patent Attorney and has vast experience in law and public service that includes serving as Director of the Nashville Davidson County Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development, Deputy General Counsel (Legal Counsel) for the U.S. Department of Defense, Acting General Counsel and Principal Deputy General Counsel for the Department of the Navy, and a partner in the law firm of Trauger, Ney & Tuke.
Ney is a 1980 graduate of Cornell University and a 1984 graduate of Vanderbilt University with both a J.D. degree and a M.B.A. degree. He is admitted to practice by the Tennessee Bar, California Bar, U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
He is a member of the Tennessee Intellectual Property Law Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, and a fellow and officer of the Tennessee Bar Foundation. He is a past president and member of the Nashville Bar Association and a fellow of the Nashville Bar Foundation.
Active in civic and community affairs, Ney chaired the Catholic Charities of Tennessee board. He is Past Vice Chair of the Metropolitan Sports Authority, Past Board Member and Program Chair of Leadership Middle Tennessee, serves as a board member and Audit Committee Member of LaunchTN, and is involved with Project Reflect, Inc. and the Southern Festival of Books. He is a Class 2000 member of Leadership Nashville and served on its program committee. Ney is a 2011 graduate of Leadership Middle Tennessee.
